What Are You Afraid Of? Reinvention, Courage & Betting on Yourself at 65 with Lillian Taylor

Reinvention at 65: So Many Possibilities!

What if the thing standing between you and what’s next isn’t readiness, but simply the courage to begin?

At 65, Lillian Taylor is creating a life that looks very different from the one she imagined years ago.

Reinvention at 65! Lillian Taylor has a story to tell that's full of courage and possibility. She's pictured smiling into the camera wearing a purple vest.

For much of her life, Lillian did what so many women do. She tried to live up to other people’s expectations, bought into the idea of perfection, and followed the path she thought she was supposed to follow.

Then loss changed the questions she was asking.

What makes me happy? What gives me purpose? What would make me feel fulfilled?

The answers didn’t arrive all at once. Reinvention became a long, gradual process of getting curious, trusting herself more, and taking small steps even when she wasn’t sure where they would lead.

One of those steps was writing a letter to actress Melissa Gilbert after learning about Modern Prairie, her online community for women navigating this chapter of life. Lillian assumed her note might land in a customer service inbox.

Instead, it opened a door.

That one act of courage eventually led to two years of facilitating conversations and creating content for Modern Prairie. And somewhere along the way, Lillian had another realization:

It was time to create something of her own.

Today she’s the founder of Women With(out) Partners, a growing community helping women 50+ build meaningful connections and friendships, whether they have a partner or not. And she’s taking that mission even further with Community Connection Circles, bringing women together in person.

In this conversation, we talk about what it really looks like to build confidence while you’re already moving, why Lillian still asks herself “What are you afraid of?”, and how taking one small step can create possibilities you never could have planned.
